Product intro and specs

It’s time to go over another pod system. This one is by Geekvape, and it’s the latest addition to the Wenax line, the Wenax Q2. Geekvape has been well known for many years as one of the premier vape manufacturers, starting with their original Aegis mod which made rugged mods mainstream. Since then, they’ve done a great job consistently putting out solid products—from mods to pods to RTAs and more.

I reviewed the original Wenax Q about two years ago. I appreciate that Geekvape takes its time with new versions, rather than releasing a new one every six months, as some companies do. The upgrades to the Q2 from the Q really show that.

The Q2 features a mix of matte leather and polished metal that makes it stand out. Not many pod systems (if any) use premium leather. The leather gives it a soft touch, while the aluminum alloy keeps it lightweight and durable. The Wenax Q2 uses the same 3 mL Q pods as the original and features a 1250 mAh battery and a 2A charge rate.

Let’s dive in deeper.

Price: $22.99 (at Vape Sourcing)

Colors: Fiber black, lilac purple, mocha mousse, Monet blue, powder pink, ruby amber, summer lime, sunset blue, vinca blue

Build quality and design

I got the Sunset Dune version, which is one of nine colors available. It has a cream-colored soft leather wrap that covers about half the device, a light gold faceplate around the screen, and a silver body for the rest. It has a classy, elegant look.

On the front, you get a large, sharp, bright color OLED screen that isn’t overcrowded with info. Just a big wattage setting and a battery meter—sweet and simple. On the right side is the only button, and on the left is a smooth airflow slider that goes from a solid MTL to a restricted DL draw. On the bottom is your standard USB-C port.

It’s a pen-style device with a flat rectangular shape, but the base is solid enough to stand upright. The small “Wenax” logo above the screen doesn’t ruin the style, and the “Geekvape” logo etched into the leather on the back fits in nicely without being overbearing.

In the hand, it feels great thanks to the leather—soft, grippy, but still solid. At 79.8 grams with a half-full pod, it’s not heavy at all. Still, it feels like an old-school Nokia—durable enough to survive everyday drops and use.

Getting started

The Wenax Q2 is simple and beginner friendly. It’s inhale-to-fire only, no fire button. The single function button handles everything else.

Hold it to turn the screen animation on/off (I turned mine off, but it’s personal preference).

Press twice to cycle through the four screen themes (pink, yellow, blue, or black/white). Each has its own battery meter design.

Press three times to adjust power. The chip auto-limits wattage to the safe range for the coil. For example, the 0.6-ohm coil lets you set between 18 and 25 watts. It also auto-sets wattage when you insert a pod.

Five clicks turns the device on/off (though you really don’t need to turn it off unless you are storing it).

The airflow slider on the left gives flexibility. Higher resistance coils (1.2 ohm, 0.8 ohm) work best with it closed down, while lower ones (0.6 ohm and under) need it wide open.

The device comes with two 3 mL side-fill pods and is compatible with all Q pods. They’re tinted dark, which I’m not a fan of—I always prefer clear pods so that juice levels are easy to see. Filling is easy though; there’s a side rubber flap you can open without removing the pod. The pods snap in and out with strong magnets and no rattle.

You can also tap the button to check the screen for battery or wattage. With animation off, the screen stays dark while vaping, which helps battery life.

Overall, it’s a simple, easy-to-use pod system with some nice customization.

Performance

The Wenax Q2 comes with a 0.8-ohm and a 0.6-ohm 3ml side-fill pod. I’ve used these coils in devices like the Wenax Q Pro, Wenax Q, Sonder Q, and Digi Q, and overall, they’ve been solid.

The coils come in both top-fill and side-fill versions, 2 ml or 3 ml, with resistances of 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.2 ohm. Geekvape also has pre-filled ones coming soon.

Performance is smooth with good airflow adjustment range. Normally I’m a fan of the 0.8-ohm pod, but this time mine only lasted about 10 mL. Likely a bad coil—it happens. The 0.6-ohm pod, however, worked great with about 30 mL before needing replacement.

Overall, the Q line of coils is reliable. The only one I haven’t tried is the 0.4-ohm pod, but for me, pods in this type of device work best at 20 watts or under with higher nicotine salt juices. Lower-resistance coils push more into larger devices and DL territory.

Battery life and charging

Battery life depends on wattage and usage, but I stick to test results. The Q2 has a listed 1250 mAh battery and 5V/2A charge rate, with claims of 80% charge in 30 minutes.

In testing, I got a max charge rate of 1.49A—not 2A, so they should really list it as 1.5A. Battery capacity came out at 993 mAh, basically 1000 mAh, which is fair for a pod system.

At 40 minutes, the screen said 85% but the actual charge was 96% (957 mAh), so the “80% in 30 minutes” claim checks out. It takes another 10 minutes to finish charging, averaging about 1.2A near the top-off.

It also supports passthrough vaping while charging.

Pros / Cons

Pros title

Adjustable airflow (MTL to restricted DL)
Beginner-friendly operation
Tons of coil options
Large battery for a pod system

Cons title
Tinted pods (hard to see juice level)
Overstated charge rate (should be listed at 1.5A)
Got a dud coil (not the norm for this line, but worth noting)

Verdict

The Wenax Q2 is another solid device from Geekvape. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but the OLED screen and leather finish help it stand out. Performance and versatility are right up there with the best pods. If you like the look and feel, it’s well worth picking up. It’s the type of device you can just pick up and trust it’s going to work every time without fuss. Nothing flashy or gimmicky, just a solid pod system done right.

I started doing reviews at the end of 2016 bringing a unique amount of data and fair points that has made them grow in popularity. I’m an avid temp control vaper but will vape pretty much any style of vaping. My goal is to bring as much good, fair, and unbiased information to the forefront as I can to aid vapers in making informed decisions to get the best vape for their style. I enjoy helping people really get the most out of their vape and finding their “aha” moment when it all clicks into place.
