Product intro and specs

Right on schedule, VOOPOO returns with a new DRAG device, and this time it’s the DRAG 6. The kit I received includes the DRAG 6 vape mod as well as the UFORCE-X 2 sub ohm tank, which uses the PnP X coil platform.

The DRAG 6 mod is rated at 220 watts and has a 1.66-inch color screen while featuring the GENE TT 3.0 chip. Interestingly, that’s the first DRAG mod with an internal (built-in) battery, and this one is rated at 4400 mAh. The mod comes with a capacitive unlock sensor and a precision control wheel that you turn in order to make adjustments. The tank itself is made for DL vaping and features top airflow.

The DRAG name is synonymous with high quality. Outside of one of them (the DRAG 2), all the other ones have been pretty good, so we’ll see if the DRAG 6 can live up to its name.

Colors: Black, silver, red, brown, green, light blue, sky blue, metal gray

Price: $64.99 (at VapeSourcing)

First impressions

As far as first impressions go, this is a pretty good-looking mod. The one I’m reviewing is the metal gray color, which has a gunmetal frame and blue leather on the sides and back. The leather does feel fantastic, and overall, the design looks clean without going too crazy, depending on the version you get. I do like that they didn’t go overboard with the DRAG logo, which has been an issue with some of them in the past. Still, the logo is fairly large compared to your average mod.

I actually thought it might have been waterproof, based on the plug covering the USB port. However, since I don’t see anything that says it is, I’m just going to assume it’s not.

The other thing that stood out to me was the dial. Instead of physical plus and minus buttons, it uses a wheel you rotate left and right (clockwise or counterclockwise) to make your adjustments. I was also impressed by the color screen, which is very large, bright, and vibrant.

My impressions of the tank were also pretty positive. It’s a really well-built tank, looks great, and everything feels super smooth. I do like the switchblade-style pop-off top for filling. It has two nice fill holes with a rubber gasket, and they even labeled the airflow (0-1-2-3).

Build quality and design

As far as the design and build quality go, the mod is fantastic in both areas. My gunmetal one has a matte finish, but it also has glossy accents around the leather and the dial that give it some contrast. The dial itself has good knurling and is nice and smooth, while also being very clicky. The leather feels great and gives a nice contrast to the frame of the mod.

Since I got the gunmetal version, it also came with a matching tank, which looks great on it. Overall, it’s a very good-looking kit. As far as quality goes, it really does feel like a device that could take everyday use and just keep on working. It’s a very nicely built mod, and the 510 pin is great as well. Overall, VOOPOO did a fantastic job with the design of the DRAG 6.

Features and functions

The DRAG 6 is loaded with features. It has a large built-in battery, so you don’t have to worry about external batteries. The mod features three modes. You have Smart mode, which will automatically set the wattage your coil needs when used with the included tank. It works great so that you don’t burn it out or use too little or too much power. RBA mode is your standard adjustable mode, where you can adjust power from 5 to 220 watts. It also has temp control mode for nickel, titanium, SS316, and SS430.

Another feature that they push heavily is the precision mechanical wheel control. It’s not really any more precise than pressing a button, so I’m not entirely sure what they mean by that, but in normal use it worked very well. When I was testing the mod, it was a bit annoying because it takes longer to adjust all the way up to 220 watts. However, in everyday use where you’re only making small adjustments, it works fine.

Another feature is the lock options. There are three options: it can stay unlocked, use the capacitive touch activation, where you just touch the fire button to unlock and release to lock, or use a double-click to lock and unlock. The one I went with is the standard double-click. I like that they’re trying something different, but personally, I still prefer a lock slider. The double-click works well enough, but I’m not a fan of the touch option.

The screen itself is excellent, with a 1.66-inch TFT display and a clean UI. There are three themes. The default one is a purple/blue theme where everything is laid out nicely and easy to see. The second one puts the wattage even more front and center with a slightly different layout. The third one has a more animated vortex-style background with darker colors. I prefer the default, but it’s good to have options.

While vaping, the screen displays an animation that matches the theme you picked, though you can turn animations off in the settings, which I did. I don’t really see much of a point to them.

They list a 4400 mAh battery, which is actually two 2200 mAh cells. If they are in series, which is likely, then technically it’s closer to 2200 mAh at 8.4 V. It’s more of a technical detail than anything that really affects usage, and I understand why they list it that way.

Using the VOOPOO DRAG 6 mod

Using the VOOPOO DRAG 6 mod is pretty simple. By default, it uses touch to unlock, so you just touch the fire button to unlock it and release to lock it. I changed that right away in the menu and went with the double-click option.

To access the menu, you click the fire button three times, which is the only button on the mod. From there, you use the scroll wheel to make your adjustments. The submenus include mode selection, theme selection, animation on or off, lock settings, and puff clear.

The wheel at the top is used to scroll and adjust wattage. When using the device, if you want to change wattage with the screen on, you just rotate the wheel. If the screen is off or the device is locked, it won’t adjust. The lock fully locks the device, not just the wattage.

Overall, it’s very simple and easy to use, and the option to use either touch or the button for basic operations is a plus.

Power mode performance

Let’s see how the mod performed in the power test. It’s rated at 220 watts and listed at 8.4 volts, which is a theoretical value for a dual battery setup in series and doesn’t really account for real-world conditions. It practically means that there's no boost circuit, and you won't be getting the full 8.4 volts in real life conditions.

Testing was done with the internal battery, starting at full and ending around 90%. The maximum I got was 204 watts, so realistically it’s a 200-watt device. That’s not really a big deal since most people won’t be vaping that high anyway. I don’t recommend going much over 150 watts on a dual-battery device.

For the amp rating, I got 50A, which is very impressive. Most comparable devices are around 40A, so this one performs well with low-resistance coils.

Overall, performance is in line with most dual-battery mods. It doesn’t really stand out, but it performs within expectations. It tends to hit a little higher than the set wattage with 0.2-ohm or higher coils. Below 0.2 ohm and under 100 watts, it was more accurate.

The highest voltage I got was 7.06V. It might go a bit higher on a full charge, but as I said above, you’re not going to get the full 8.4V. A more realistic rating would be around 7.5V.

Temperature control performance

The DRAG 6 does have temp control, which isn’t as common these days. There are presets for nickel, titanium, SS316, and SS430. For testing, I used SS316, which is the most common TC wire type.

One limitation is that you can’t adjust the wattage in temp control mode. It sets the power automatically. For example, with a 0.2 ohm coil, it set it to 50 watts, and testing confirmed that as the max output.

Because of that, you won’t get a fast ramp-up, and it won’t handle high-power builds well. It’s better suited for moderate setups.

That said, it does provide a consistent and smooth vape within those limits. It works, but it’s not something I would buy specifically for temp control. It’s more of a bonus feature.

UFORCE-X 2 tank rundown

Now let’s talk about the tank, which is the UFORCE-X 2. It uses the PnP X coil platform, so it’s compatible with the coils used in previous UFORCE tanks. If you’re in a TPD region, you may receive the original UFORCE-X instead.

The tank is very well built. Everything feels smooth, and the threading is good. It uses a standard 810 drip tip and has a switchblade style quarter-turn top fill design.

The airflow is smooth and has numbered markers, which can help if you want to keep track of your settings. Since it’s a top airflow tank, flavor isn’t as strong as bottom airflow designs. That said, this one performs better than most top airflow tanks I’ve used.

It comes with a 0.3 ohm and a 0.15 ohm coil. I preferred the 0.15 ohm, but both perform well. Smart mode works well with the included coils, so I’d recommend using it.

Battery life and charging

As far as battery life goes, it’s rated at 4400 mAh and supports 5V/3A charging. I tested it with a standard 2A charger and got up to 2.23A, so the 3A rating seems reasonable.

Charging time was about 1 hour and 48 minutes to reach 100% on the screen, though it continues charging slightly after that.

The measured usable capacity was 3432 mAh, which is about 78% of the rated capacity. That’s pretty typical for internal batteries, which usually deliver around 80% usable capacity.

Verdict

Overall, I think VOOPOO did a really good job with this kit. The DRAG 6 feels very well put together, with a solid build, excellent leather backing, and a clean overall design. The screen is large and bright and the wheel control works well in everyday use, even if it’s a bit slow for large adjustments.

Performance in power mode is solid; it has a high amp limit and handles low-resistance coils well, even if the voltage and wattage ratings are a bit inflated. The included UFORCE-X 2 tank is also surprisingly good as far as tanks bundled in kits go, with very good build quality and better-than-average performance for a top-airflow design.

Overall, it’s a solid starter kit for someone who wants to get into DL vaping with a more advanced device, especially if they don't want the hassle of external batteries. It's not great for vaping in TC (no power setting), but for vapers using power mode, it’s easily one of the better kits currently available.
