Vaporesso Osmall Review: Tight MTL Taking on Max VG

Product intro and specs

Vaporesso is back with a simple little refillable pod vape. It’s called the Osmall because it’s...so small. It comes with a single 2 mL magnetized drop-in pod with a 1.2-ohm coil wick'd with flax fiber cotton. It's super lightweight, weighing only 26 grams with a textured plastic shell and a low-capacity 350 mAh battery powering 11 watts. And it's priced just around $14. But is it inexpensive or just cheap? It looks like it’s just another small pod vape.

On one hand, that’s true. It is just another pod vape. On the other hand, there’s something big going on in this little device that’s been a real treat to use. Let me explain.

Build quality and design

The Osmall has a rectangular body that’s flattened and rounded, which makes it slip easily and comfortably into a pocket. The outside of the body has a ribbed linear pattern which is nice to hold onto, and it's well-executed. Overall, it’s a simple and minimalistic design.

The charge port is located on the bottom of the device and it’s a micro USB. I would’ve liked to have seen a USB-C, but it’s not a big deal—though I’m one of those people that will continue to bring it up until micro USB has seen its last day.

Pods

The magnetized drop-in pods are held in more securely than they do in Vaporesso’s previous similar devices. The Osmall uses 2 mL pods like their other pod vapes, but it has a deeper seating of the pod and large circular magnets which helps give it a more reliable connection. Being lightweight also helps a lot too. When I drop the Osmall, the pod rarely pops out unless I’m really trying to make it happen.

Speaking of popping out, don’t pull out the whole refill plug. There’s an arrow indentation at the top of the plug pointing out where to pull. It’s hard to get back if you pull it out all the way due to it having a weak and small anchor. You can get it back in if it comes out all the way, but if you have big hands there may be some frustration ahead. Make note: remove the tab from the top. Other than that, refilling is normal—although you may need to do some tilting to get a full fill.

The mouthpiece is similar to the Renova Zero, SMPO and the like. It fits perfectly in between the lips. Luckily for me, not being a fan of either of those devices, the Osmall is not just another version of them.

Performance

Why do I like the Osmall so much? It wicks like it's on a mission! It’s handled ANY juice I’ve thrown at it. From super thin PG-based juices like original Halo line to super thick all-VG juices like Boba’s Bounty. It's done really well with super sweet juices like Dinner Lady salts. Yes, this little device can wick all of those back to back with very little flavor carryover and without hiccup.

The flavor production has also been impressive. It’s legit warm without getting hot or dropping to cool. I'm able to taste the full flavor of Boba’s Bounty but with the high nic that I prefer. Normally, it would make most sense to use thick juices with subohm tanks. And I typically consider MTL for hit and DL for flavor. Looks like I can have my cake and eat it too! Props to Vaporesso because I am getting both a killer throat hit and saturated flavor for such a tight MTL.

And it is tight. Put your lips up to the back of your hand and suck in. That’s about the tightness of the draw. But the Osmall activates with only the slightest pull and at times it can catch you off guard, particularly when you’re using high nic. I coughed my butt off the other night because I got a little too aggressive dragging. Learn from my mistake! Although the draw is super tight, don’t pull hard. Easy does it.

There’s been no leaking, spitting, flooding, and no burnt or dry hits. I got some gurgling one time, but I blew out the pod from the bottom and that cleared it up. I’ve tried 12 coils so far and refilled each one at least two times; they’ve all performed the same: Great! We’ll see how subsequent batches of the pods fair.

Battery life and charging

Charging the Osmall takes about 45 minutes, and it has pass-thru charging. That’s a good thing because, with only 350 mAh, the Osmall doesn’t last a long time.

It charges through a micro USB port that’s located on the bottom of the battery. There’s only a small LED on the front side of the device that’s either solid white when taking a hit, indicating it’s charged, or it’ll flash to indicate that the battery is depleted. With such a discreet LED and the overall small size of the Osmall, it's easily my favorite stealth vape.

Verdict

I love the Osmall. Granted, I'm an MTL vaper if pressed to choose. But it’s more than being just another MTL vape. This inexpensive device has me buying a bunch of juice again because the coils have withstood all ratios and even super sweet juices. I might try NETs (naturally extracted tobaccos) next.

Often those juices I just mentioned have to be used in rebuildables or some type of advanced device that gives the user ability to fine-tune and tweak. But a $14 plastic refillable pod vape? I never could’ve imagined this thing was going to become my new favorite device. My fingers are crossed that performance of the Osmall doesn’t plummet after publishing this review.
