Innokin Klypse Review: As Easy as It Gets!

The Klypse is Innokin’s latest pod system. It is a beginner-friendly device that aims to provide an out-of-the-box satisfying MTL vape, with no settings, adjustments, or even coil swaps. It takes replaceable pods, has a 700 mAh internal battery, and features a practical magnetic cap for the mouthpiece.

Out of all the vape companies, Innokin is probably the one that focuses the most on beginners. With the Klypse winning awards in vape Expos, it looks like they've done it again. Keep reading to find out if the hype is warranted, and more importantly, if the Klypse can be the vape to help you quit smoking.

Build quality and design

The Klypse is a classy little device—although, technically, it’s not that little. Measuring 94 mm x 29 mm x 15.2 mm with the cap over the mouthpiece, it is not one of these super-compact vapes. It is shorter than the Caliburn A2 and the Wenax H1, although placing the mouthpiece cap at the bottom adds 17 mm and brings it around their length. It is a bit larger than these devices in the other two dimensions, but it still is a device you can easily pocket.

Back to the classy part. The Klypse, like many other Innokin vapes, is designed with simplicity in mind. Most of the device is single-colored, with a thin black accent at the side carrying the Innokin logo and a black top and bottom. Nothing futuristic here, and no textured frames and leather panels. Just a smooth aluminum alloy surface with plastic details.

The 2 mL pods are lightly tinted and are held in place by some of the strongest magnets I’ve ever seen on a vape. Seriously, I sometimes had difficulty removing the pod from the device, and that’s not because of the pod being dainty or anything. They’re just that strong! Which brings me to the star of the show here.

The magnetic cap for the mouthpiece is just great. It clicks in place over the mouthpiece satisfyingly and can be placed at the bottom of the device when in use, held by even stronger magnets. I think I’ve spent more time fiddling with the magnetic connection than actually using the device. The sound it makes when it sticks at the bottom of the battery makes it better than a stress ball! The only thing I don’t love about the cap is the length it adds to the device when it’s at the bottom, but that’s very minor, and you don’t really have to place it there if you don’t want to.

As far as build quality goes, there’s only one issue I found. One of the six units I received felt a bit wobbly when shaken. At first, I thought it was the pod—but with magnets like these, it sure wasn’t the case. Turns out I got a loose battery on one of the units. Things like that sometimes happen, and with only one unit being faulty, I’m willing to give them a pass. If yours has the same issue, I suggest returning it for a replacement (and leaving a comment here).

The Klypse is one of the most straightforward refillable vapes on the market, so there’s not much to say here. Here’s a rundown:

Performance

With vapes that come without any means of fine-tuning, there’s always one question: how good are they out of the box? This is obviously very subjective, but one thing is for sure, the Klypse hit my sweet spot.

There is only one pod option currently available for the Klypse, and that’s a 0.8-ohm mesh pod. The pod provides an MTL vape. It’s not super tight nor loose, it sits comfortably at a midway point. It is much tighter than the original Caliburn, and maybe a touch tighter than the Wenax H1. I’d place it between the Wenax H1 and the Voopoo Vinci Q if that says anything to you. If it doesn’t, and especially if you are a smoker looking to quit, I’d say it is a great starting point for switching to vaping.

As far as flavor goes, we’ve been spoiled by pod vapes during the last couple of years, and the Klypse is no exception. I’d put it next to the vapes I mentioned in the previous paragraph, all of which are some of my favorite pods. It doesn’t have a super strong throat hit, but I’ve found that a strong throat hit can sometimes be a turn-off for beginners. Plus, this can be solved with some higher-strength nicotine salt juice. But I wouldn’t go very high on the strength, as the Klypse produces warm vapor. Start with something around 20-25 mg, and take it from there.

I can’t be sure about coil life, but I’ve been rotating three Klypses during the last two weeks, and I only had to change one of the pods a couple of days ago. I never had a dry hit with 70VG juice, but I suggest using something closer to 50/50 for the extra throat hit—it will also help your coils last longer.

To sum it up, the Klypse is an excellent performer and a great pairing for mid-strength nicotine salts.  If that’s your first vape, I’m confident you’ll be impressed.

Battery life and charging

The simplicity of the design carries over to battery indication, with only a single white-colored LED for all levels. In fact, that may be my only gripe with this device. A simple three-color LED would have made users’ life easier, as now battery life is kind of a guessing game.

The light will flash ten times when the device is under 10%, and you won’t be able to use the device a lot after that, so you better have a charger ready. As for battery life, expect to go through a bit over one pod on a charge. Vapor gets significantly cooler after one full pod, so maybe you could use that as battery indication.

The device charges at a 1A rate through a Type-C port, and I timed a full charge at 55 minutes. It supports passthrough, so you can vape while the device is plugged in.

Verdict

As far as beginner-friendly vapes go, you’ll be hard-pressed to find one that ticks more boxes than the Klypse. It is practically foolproof, relatively compact, lightweight, and provides a great vape out of the box. No buttons, no settings; just fill it up and vape.

Of course, it’s not the first product to do these things, but Innokin just know how to make products for soon-to-be ex-smokers. There’s something about the elegant design of the Klypse that just clicks (and a mouthpiece cap that clacks, in a super satisfying way).

I only have two things to complain about here. The wobbly battery on one of my units (which could have been a dealbreaker if Innokin hadn’t sent six devices) and the lackluster battery indication. But even with these two cons, the Klypse comes with a high recommendation. If you or someone you know is trying to quit smoking, don’t hesitate to give the Klypse a look.
