Geekvape Aegis S100 (Solo 2) Review: Test Results Are In

The Geekvape S100 (Solo 2) kit is one of the latest kits from long-time popular manufacturer Geekvape. By now most vapers know who they are as they’ve made some great products over the years. They’re a very solid and reliable company overall with only a few hiccups along the way.

The S100 is an IP68-rated box mod that fires up to 100 watts and comes in a kit with the Geekvape Z 2021 sub ohm tank. The mod is pretty much the same device as the recently reviewed M100 with the exception that it uses a single 18650 battery (not included) where the M100 has an internal battery. Due to that, I’ll keep things short and simple. I’ll give you my first impressions of the unit I received, talk about the tank, and offer my final verdict. First impressions

Off the bat, I’ve reviewed pretty much every mod in the Aegis line. From the original Aegis to the latest generation of the line, you name it, I've reviewed it. They have been great mods. As I mentioned in the intro, the S100 is nearly identical to the M100 so if you’ve read that review, you’ll already know more or less everything there is to know about this device. The only thing that changes is that you get to use your own battery on the S100.

Out of the six available options, I received the black with black leather. The outside frame is matte black while the frame accent is a shiny black for contrast. The black leather looks and feels great. It’s kind of a triple black design which is really nice. There is no silicon outside cover like we see on many of these mods though, but I like that as it makes the color options more distinct from each other.

Like the rest of the Aegis line, the S100 looks classy and tactical, feels great, is easy to use, and just works. I got exactly what I expected when I heard I'd be getting sent another Aegis, and I’m happy they didn’t try to reinvent the wheel and ruin it.

Geekvape Z 2021 tank rundown

So let's do a quick rundown of the tank. The tank included in the kit is the Geekvape Z 2021 sub ohm tank which uses the same coils as the Z tank (Z coils). It performs the same but has a couple of small design updates to it.

It’s a pretty basic tank overall. It comes with top airflow to minimize the possibility of leaking. It has a 5 mL capacity and a quarter-twist top cap that reveals the filling port when removed. The coils are plug and play and the drip tip is a standard Delrin 810.

To replace the coil, you unscrew the base from the pod tank and pop the coil out. You can't do it with a full tank, but it can be done with the tank half full which is nice. Still probably better to replace the coil when it’s empty though.

Unfortunately, the coil is hard to grip even though it sticks out a fair amount, so you're best off using the included tool or a flat head screwdriver. I wish it was easier to replace on the go without a need for a tool. The quarter twist fill is excellent and my favorite filling design, but sometimes when removing the top cap, you wind up taking the airflow control ring with it since the top cap is pretty thin. They fixed that design with the Z Nano 2 tank that comes with the M100.

There are four coil options in total:

The two included were the Z0.2 and Z0.25. Starting with the Z0.2 coil I found it best around 70 watts. The flavor started off poorly but broke in after a tank, although it was still just ok. It only lasted about 55 mL which is low by today's standards. Overall, not a very good coil. Then with the Z0.25, which I found best around 50 watts. Flavor was a little better than the Z0.4 coil but still just ok. Life was the same at around 55 mL.

Overall, both coils aren't bad but also are not up to today's standards. But you can only expect so much from an included tank in a kit, where most typically range from bad to just ok.

Verdict

Overall, and like the rest of the Aegis mods, I just can't really find anything bad about this one. They are great, and if you haven’t had one before, now would be the time. This mod is the same as the M100 I recently reviewed so if you don't want an internal battery mod, you can opt for the single-battery S100 here.

As far as the tank goes it’s not that great, but to be fair, most included tanks in kits really aren’t. So, you’d probably be better off just getting the mod and buying a separate tank. But if you are in the market for a new mod, give this one a look for sure.
