Product intro and specs

The Geekvape Aegis 1FC is the latest pod system by Geekvape, who over the past few years have established themselves as one of the best vape manufacturers in the industry. They’ve had many great devices, including a number of Aegis mods, the Nova mod, and even beginner-friendly vapes like the Wenax pod.

The 1FC is a pod system as is the craze these days. It comes in a small package, about the same size as the Uwell Caliburn. Its internal battery is listed at 550 mAh, it uses inhale to fire as well as a fire button, and comes with pods that have a 2 mL capacity. Geekvape list a 2A charge rate and a 15-minute quick charge as well, hence the “FC” (fast charge) in the product name.

This is the second fast-charging device from Geekvape, after the Obelisk mod that I reviewed earlier in the year. Keep reading to find out how it performs and if Geekvape’s promises on the charging specs are accurate.

Build quality and design

The Aegis 1FC is a small rectangular pod that has a nice side panel like many Aegis devices. It also weighs very little but feels really solid in the hand. You can tell it’s well built and can survive everyday use and drops. It stands at 116 mm tall and 22 mm wide. It’s pretty easy to pocket in my opinion.

It's offered in five colors. I got the silver and blue one for review and it’s a nice blend of a silver body with a blue-grey panel on the side that’s soft and grippy and feels nice. A cool feature to have on a device like this in my opinion would be a sliding locking switch like we have seen on a few of their mods. Would make it easier to turn on and off. Just my two cents though.

There are also three LED lights on the bottom front that indicate the charge level as well as the power mode you're on—more on that in the following section. All in all, it’s a pretty standard pod system, but it is well-built, looks good, and it’s done right.

Getting started

The Aegis 1FC is a pretty typical pod system that’s simple to use. It does have a few features though. It has one button, and if you click it five times it will turn on/off. Clicking it three times lets you adjust the power level. You can tell based on the LEDs; green is high, blue is medium, and red is low. Outside of that though, not much else to this device, so still pretty good for beginners.

The pod itself just pops into place via magnets and pops in and out of the device very easily. The magnets are strong, and the pod is held in firmly. To remove the pod, just grab it and pull it out. No special tricks needed. To put it back in, just pop it in and the magnets will grab it. Really easy and simple as it should be.

Refilling is very easy on this device since it’s top fill. You don’t need to remove the pod at all. Just push the black cap forward and it’ll pop off and expose a large fill hole. The pod is not tinted, which is great, but is pretty covered up. There is a sight glass cutout on the front, but since there isn’t one on the back to see all the way through, it can still be kinda hard to see the juice level in certain lighting. A cutout on the back lined up with the front one would have fixed that since you’d get to see all the way through the pod.

Overall, very happy with the simplicity, but I just wish the juice level was a little easier to see while the pod is in the device.

Performance

The most important part of any pod device is going to be the coils. Geekvape pod systems as of late have had really good coils, so we’ll see how this stacks up. Also worth noting is that since these coils are encased in the pod, they aren’t compatible with other older Geekvape pods. They do, however, fit in the Geekvape One, which is very similar to this device with only a couple of small differences.

The 1FC Pod comes with two pods, one of each available—a 0.8-ohm pod rated at 12-16 watts and a 1.2-ohm pod rated at 8-12 watts. Both pods are made for MTL vaping.

I used 50/50 20-24mg nic salt juices in it. I’ll do both coils at once since they are similar. The 1.2-ohm coil is a little tighter of a draw and a little weaker of a hit, while the 0.8-ohm coil does give a little more flavor and cloud, but there aren’t any major differences. Overall, both coils had good flavor and were able to pass the 20 mL mark which, for these types of coils, I consider great. The average is around 10 mL, and 20 mL is where the best ones die. Really good job on the coils here and no complaints. Since it comes with one of each, you can try for yourself and see what you like better—but honestly, you can’t go wrong with either one. Both are great coils.

Battery life and charging

The Geekvape 1FC comes with an internal battery listed at 550 mAh, while the very similar Geekvape One has its battery listed at 780 mAh but without the fast-charging capability. For the 1FC, they list the charge rate at 2A and a charge time of 15 minutes, and the port is USB C located on the bottom. I tested their claims and for the charge rate I got max 1.87A, so a good rating there.

For charge time, the device appears to be full after about 20 minutes as all the lights are lit, but it’s actually only about 90% full at that point. it’ll top all the way off in the next two minutes or so. Realistically it’s 22 minutes to be all the way full, however 20 minutes gets you pretty much there and very close to the 15-minute charge promised. You’ll still be about 80-85% at 15 minutes so very usable at that point. Still a very fast charge compared to most pods, but part of that is due to the small battery.

For battery size, it’s around 436 mAh usable, so their rating is ok. They’re about 20% off which is pretty common, but I’ll still ding them for it. I like it to be at least within 15% and ideally 10%. Overall, the charge rate rating is good enough since most round up, and the time and capacity ratings are close enough to be ok in my book.

The device offers passthrough vaping as well, where it pauses charging while vaping then resumes after. If you wanted to opt for the bigger battery Geekvape One it charges at 0.73A in 65 minutes and has a 700 mAh battery, so about 40% longer battery and much closer to its listed spec of 780 mAh.

On the 1FC The LED acts as a battery meter using three LED lights. You have to count how many are on and not worry about the colors as the color is the power mode:

  • Three lights: 4.2-3.8V
  • Two lights: 3.8-3.4V
  • One light: 3.4V or less

The LED is only on when vaping but you can tap the fire button to see it easily. I do wish there was a fourth step though, as the device goes from one light to empty pretty fast.

Verdict

Overall, Geekvape did a good job with the 1FC. It’s nothing new or groundbreaking and doesn’t really stand out outside of the fast charging, but it’s a solid overall device to help new vapers and people looking to quit smoking. They made it simple, but the battery is a bit small compared to the Geekvape One. Still, it’s well designed and just works.

I really don’t have anything majorly bad to say about it; there are some minor quirks I listed as cons but nothing that makes it not a good choice. However, if you want a bigger battery and don’t mind the extra charge time, the Geekvape One is very similar and uses the same great coils. So, if you are in the market for a new simple pod device, the Aegis 1FC and One are both well worth looking at.

We’d like to hear from you. Have you tried the Geekvape Aegis 1FC pod? How was your experience with the device? Let us know in the comments below.

I started doing reviews at the end of 2016 bringing a unique amount of data and fair points that has made them grow in popularity. I’m an avid temp control vaper but will vape pretty much any style of vaping. My goal is to bring as much good, fair, and unbiased information to the forefront as I can to aid vapers in making informed decisions to get the best vape for their style. I enjoy helping people really get the most out of their vape and finding their “aha” moment when it all clicks into place.
