Product intro and specs

One of the most recognizable vape juice brands is loaded up with Zero Tobacco Nicotine (ZTN) salt in mega-size rechargeable disposables with 650 mAh battery life.

Juice Head Bars are not your typical disposable e-cigarettes. They’re 8 mL capacity rechargeable with a mesh coil rated for 3000 puffs. But while these are big disposables, the actual vape experience is geared toward MTL—which is a relief for me. I prefer MTL with a disposable. Having said that, this is my first experience with Juice Head e-liquid. Despite my familiarity with them in virtually every physical and virtual vape shop I buy from, I never bought their juice on my own.

Price: $14.99

Flavors: Blueberry lemon, double apple, mango strawberry, peach pear, peach pineapple, raspberry lemonade, strawberry kiwi, watermelon lime, watermelon strawberry.

Size, look, and feel

The Juice Head Bars are big as far as disposables go. They’re rectangular and come with a comfortable whistle tip mouthpiece. They look like a girthy Pez dispenser or something. Which is fine by me. However, the colorways are too loud for my liking, which makes stealth vaping more difficult than it needs to be. Granted, the colors are supposed to suggest the flavors themselves—like red for strawberry—but it’s too over-the-top for me. I’m 44 years old. I like sweet flavors and gladly will eat candy. But I don’t want to carry pink and purple devices around with me unless I’m holding my daughter’s toys.

Getting started

Like any disposable, there’s nothing more to getting started except for taking the device out of the package and pulling off the airflow tabs or stickers. One thing to be aware of is that the sticker on the bottom of the Juice Head Bar can be a bit hit or miss. Sometimes, it’s a bit of a hassle to peel it cleanly. There’s a little tab that says peel here. The problem is when you peel it—unless you peel slowly in a straight line down—you could be picking at the sticker with your nails. I don’t have “nails” like that.

How does it hit?

The Juice Head Bars provide a legit MTL, with no adjustment available (or necessary.) The hits have not failed, nor has any performance aspect of the device been an issue. The size of the devices belies their draw. Normally big disposables come with some type of open draw. Not here! And though the Juice Head Bars are the size of an AIO, they have a tighter draw than the original Caliburn, for example.

Like most disposables out these days, the Juice Head Bars come in predominantly iced or mentholated flavors. While the hit of menthol is not what I would consider "throat hit," there is a decent kick with each puff. With 50 mg, I would be let down if there wasn’t.

Interestingly, I would’ve never guessed these contained Zero Tobacco Nicotine as opposed to regular nicotine salt. I’m not a fan of tobacco-free nicotine in vapes normally—it doesn’t quite agree with me. I get why it’s there, and I can appreciate the wiggle room it’s allowed the industry, even if only temporarily—but not my choice. To my surprise, these Juice Head Bars vape no differently in taste, experience, or performance than what I expect out of a regular nic salt vape. Maybe that’s a credit to the mixologists at Juice Head?

Are the flavors any good?

As you can probably tell by their branding, the flavors are fruity and sweet but blended to be more than mere one-note flavors. All the flavors are effectively a “juice” flavor. Some are good like the blueberry lemonade and the watermelon lime, and others aren’t that appealing to me like their pineapple strawberry and mango strawberry. But I can look past that as just personal preference, and to be expected with any full line of flavors.

All the flavors (unless I’m overlooking one,) have a cooling sensation. Some more than others. That’s the part that irks me. With a sensation as polarizing as menthol/koolada, the customer should be able to opt-out. Since when did the vape world fall for the cooling sensation? I digress. Onto the flavors:

Watermelon lime

Watermelon is a difficult flavor to nail in vaping because it’s light to begin with. But this juice manages to pull it off fairly successfully. The lime is tart (as it should be,) but it marries with the watermelon well.

Watermelon Strawberry

A solid flavor that has that Starburst-kinda quality of strawberry, with a faint hit of watermelon. There’s a medium-to-low level of coolness. It’s there, but not overpowering.

Blueberry lemon

A common type of flavor but done better than most. The blueberry is sweet like candy, and it is mixed with a natural lemon flavor.

Mango strawberry

The mango tastes a bit funky to me, and the strawberry takes a back seat to it. I had high hopes for this one but it’s not one I want to vape. Too much cooling and too much mango.

Peach pineapple

I taste the peach and the pineapple, but pineapple is rarely tasty to me in a vape flavor. That said, I can handle this one more than the mango strawberry, but it too would basically only be in my emergency-only stash.

Peach pear

A delicate yet delectable flavor. A medium level of cooling, but even for someone like me that has grown to hate that sensation, this flavor is blended well enough to get over it. Good job on this one.

Pros / Cons

Pros
Rechargeable
Large liquid capacity
Several flavor options to choose from
Legit MTL hit
Comfortable mouthpiece makes for a pleasant draw
Cons
Cooling sensation in all flavors
Colorways are too loud
Micro-USB instead of Type-C

Verdict

The performance of the Juice Head Bars is consistent and the ability to recharge them allows you to get the most bang for your buck. Granted, I didn’t like most of the flavors that much. But that’s the most subjective part.

My biggest gripe besides some of the flavors is that it would’ve been nice if they had non-mentholated options, or if they at least advertised more that the whole line has that element. It’s not something that should be a surprise. But then again, that’s the world of disposables, I guess. If that’s your thing, you’d probably enjoy some of these more than I did.

The actual vape functioned flawlessly with no dry hits, gurgles, or leaking. And although a love connection wasn’t made with me and Juice Head Bars, I’d also easily point you to these if you had your eye on other disposables in the same size and flavor category.
